Our Methodology

The development tree

The Students knowledge can be seen as a tree that grows

Picture of a tree representing students knowledge

Like a tree, the student first builds its trunk. This symbolises basic skills like cognition, study techniques, structuring and building good habits.

Picture of a tree trunk

When the tree has a trunk, it can begin to develop branches. In the same way the student can begin to understand the different disciplines, which in turn branch out to sub-disciplines such as biology or law.

Picture of a tree with branches

When these branches are developed, smaller sprigs begin to grow on them, and then leaves on these sprigs. These represent areas within sub-disciplines and concepts within these areas. For example, a concept can be the quadratic formula or photosynthesis.

When a tree has many branches, two things must happen. First, the trunk must become thicker, representing how foundations must be taught at a deeper level. Second, the tree must grow deeper roots, representing the anchoring of knowledge.

Through retrieval learning students repeat previously learned knowledge areas, so that those knowledge areas anchor themselves in the students inner selves and really sink in!

Our tree

We have created a tree that works as a template for all students when they together with us develop their own knowledge tree.

Whats so clever whith this? Our tree grows. When I founded Plugga med August our tree only consisted of what I myself knew:

It took me to A in all subjects, but it had flaws and the crooked branches were hard to transmit to my students. That's why I founded Plugga med August, based on the principle of constant development.

By joining several knowledge trees, we have created a fresh and stable tree. From this tree grow fruits of knowledge and insight.

Your journey to top grades

Step 1: Booking

The student (or guardian) books an introduction call via the booking button at the top of the page. The tutoring needs are mapped: subjects, level, goals and desired times.

Step 2: First meeting

During the first meeting, we look at the current study situation, identify challenges and set clear goals. The student is introduced to basic study techniques.

Step 3: Basic tools

During the first month, the student learns effective study methods and exam techniques, as well as planning and structuring of their schoolwork.

Step 4: Increased independence

After 2-3 months, the student begins to work more independently with their studies. We focus on deeper understanding and develop personal study strategies.

Step 5: Better results

After 4-5 months, we see clear improvements and the student has the tools to reach their grade goals. We work on improving planning and structure to reduce stress and improve results.

Step 6: Top grades

After 5-6 months, the student has developed many of the study habits needed to reach their grade goals. Focus lies on developing the rest of the study habits and getting one step ahead in planning and structure. The student develops their subject knowledge and gets help to reach the next level in school performance.

OBS: The time it takes to reach the different steps depends on how often you have tutoring, the student's prior knowledge, and how engaged the student is and how much they work between our lessons.

Special needs

"A teacher should understand that they should adapt their teaching to the different needs of students; the teaching should be shaped after each student's needs." – Mathias Fremling, pioneer in Swedish pedagogy

What does the lesson look like?

Lesson structure

Each lesson follows this structure:

  • The previous lesson is summarized
  • This week's assignments are gone through
  • Goals are set for the lesson
  • The student gets help based on their needs and methods
  • Lesson is summarized and the student gets exercises

First lessons

The first lessons are similar for all students. Then "the trunk" is built up in our tree model. Then the student gets:
